Wildest Dreams

This score pays homage to one of Ayckbourn’s favourite bands, Pink Floyd. Particularly the sweeping guitar solos of Dave Gilmour. It is a dark play exploring some dark themes approached with the usual Ayckbourn humour through incisive honest observation. The special lighting effect of the Four Horseman of The Apocalypse passing was created by a length of fishing wire attached to a par can lantern pulled vigorously by a member of stage management. Ayckbourn’s directing style was as inventive as his writing. He used a combination of old school trickery combined with modern technology to great effect. The production was subsequently presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company at The Pit in London where it featured actress Brenda Blethyn dressed in an outsize adult nappy.

Venue: Theatre in the Round, Scarborough
London Premiere: 14 December 1993
