about

Time of my Life

For this play, Alan asked me to write a score that reflected the rich cultural diversity from countries all around the Mediterranean. The music is never distinctly from one area, but deliberately takes influences from Spanish, Greek, Turkish and Moroccan traditional music.

During this period, we began exploring the possibilities of sampling for music and sound effects. I gained sponsorship from Roland UK and a lifelong fascination with virtual instruments began.

Each piece of music for Time of My Life was composed to lyrics written in a new language invented by Ayckbourn. These songs were sung by one of the waiters in the play every time he came on stage. The play was a huge success with three different time lines with converging story strands. It opened in London with Anton Rodgers and Gwen Taylor. This was the first of my scores for Alan Ayckbourn to feature in London’s West End.
