about

House and Garden

This track has been through various versions. It was used as a scene link to give actors time to run from the stage of the Lyttelton to the stage of the Olivier at the National Theatre and vice versa. The original journey in Scarborough was longer as the two stages in Scarborough have three flights of stairs between them. Actors became very fit during the runs of all these incarnations. For the National Theatre production, a full village fete was erected in the foyer during the second act. When the audience came out at the end of the performance, they were greeted with a stunning transformation featuring live music, stalls, Bat the Rat game and the legendary Human Fruit Machine.
